Jazz Fest!

We got to the fairgrounds before the gates even opened for the Imagination Movers. Unfortunately Viv was pretty tired for this part of the day. She & Gus both napped in the stroller for over an hour right after the Movers ended.

Mango freeze. Yum.

Crafts area.

World-ruling macaroni & cheese by the kids' tent.

Rocking to Third World at Congo Square.

Last show of the day, James Taylor.

Easter

We had quite the Easter weekend this year. We went on Friday to an egg hunt at UNO that the Chemistry Dep't put on. Viv found 15 eggs, got lots of candy and trinkets, ate lots of goodies, and got an unsolicited hug from a three year old girl. :) On Saturday, we dyed eggs. Viv used a marker on an egg, but she still managed to get a good bit of dye on her. Then on Sunday morning there were baskets from the Easter Bunny for both kids, and the Bunny even left a bunch of eggs in the yard! Viv did a great job finding the eggs again until she accidentally discovered that they contained jelly beans. Then she wanted to stop looking and get down to eating candy out of the ones she had already found. In the afternoon there was a brief art parade again in Bywater, and we ate a wonderful dinner at Mom's house. It was a good Easter.

The Boring Show

For some reason Alice and I have never really seen the need to have cable or satellite television. I know this lumps us in with the 0.17 % of people that still use rotary phones and drive Oldsmobile station wagons, but we've never felt too deprived, until........

The News Hour with Jim Lehrer.

Don't get me wrong, I frickin' love the News Hour. Jim Lehrer and Gwen Ifill can stop by for a beer and dinner any time they want. The problem is that the News Hour just doesn't cut it for Viv- she calls it 'the boring show' (as in, 'Daddy, is this the boring show?'). I know that Lehrer doesn't have the pizazz of a Brian Williams or an Anderson Cooper, but boring? Hardly.

I guess we'll need to get some fancypants news program to keep her happy.

Sunday Hike

A funny thing happened after Alice left for work this morning (this is Curt finally posting- everybody try not to panic). I was in the kitchen with Gus when I hear Viv start crying out from the bedroom. I head in there and she's howling and holding up her right hand repeating, "My hand is big! It growed! Fix my hand Daddy!". While all this is going on, Gus is in his exersaucer trying to eat O's but he's struggling due to some molars coming in. So, I've got Gus doing this repeat pattern of crunching on an O, then crying about it, then forgetting 10 seconds later and doing it again while Viv is waving her gigantic hand about and howling. It was a fun morning.

Anyway, we took the kids on a hike at Jean Lafitte this weekend. The weather was great and there were plenty of reptiles and amphibians roaming about. We saw a half-dozen or so alligators and quite a few snakes and turtles as well.
