Big Saturday

These pictures are from a few weeks back. Viv had been asking repeatedly to go to Storyland, and we finally obliged her. The weather looked like Storyland was out of the question, so we made plans to keep her amused by taking her to Toys R Us to cash in her gift cards from Auntie & Neetsie. But then, the weather decided to give Viv a break, and on the way to Toys R Us, we swung by the park for about an hour.

After Storyland, we went to lunch at Chevy's Fesh Mex, which we like a lot as far as big chain restaurants go. The kids were actually pretty well-behaved too as a bonus, and our young waitress was very forgiving about the mess we left. Then we hit Toys R Us, and Viv picked out a doll house and a mermaid costume as her presents, but only after we looked at everything in the store at least twice. We swung by Whole Foods to complete the Vetarans Blvd trifecta before coming back to da parish. Once in da parish and unloaded, we had to go check out Grandma & Nonna's new house. Swank!

So we all had a good day. But especially Viv.

A few pictures

Sorry for the lull in posts lately. Here are a few pictures of Gus on the sofa with Curt's hat.

And these crack me up. Gus refused to be put down for a nap a couple of weeks ago, and finally he just had to fall asleep wherever he was - which was on the kitchen chair.

And then, of course, Viv wanted in on the action.

First day of preschool

Our little Puccina started preschool last week, on 9/9/09. The teacher, Miss Christine, divided the class that day into two groups with different hourlong timelslots, and each student came with a parent or two to their particular group slot. Curt & I took Viv from 9:15-10:15. She didn't have an accident or cry, and she didn't seem to hate it, so we think that means that it went well.

Her class meets on M, W, and F from 9 to noon. So, she has been back to school twice since that first day with us and is still accident-free. I am not 100% sure about tear-free, but there have been no calls from the teacher or anything. It drives me absolutely nuts that I will ask her about her day and she provides no details at all. On Friday she said, "I made a new friend." But when I asked more, she couldn't or wouldn't tell me anything about this new friend, not name, not even gender. I wish I could watch her in action without her knowing I was there. I hope she's well-behaved, but I have a hard time imagining that to be the case. Look at the attitude she's throwing in these first two pictures we took at home before we left for school!

The pictures after the first two are of Viv in front of school, in her classroom, and in the school gym. That last picture is of her with the one friend, Carrie, who she met that first hour we were there to observe. The position of Viv's body in that picture reminds me of a Chrles M Schulz illustration - I could just see one of the Peanuts gang in that position.

These pictures are from the weekend before last, at Torres Park.
