Viv's First Christmas

Viv had her first x-mas today and she seemed to enjoy it but it went on a little too long and she fell asleep. I'll probably put some video of that up in the next day or so (I have a non-x-mas'y video for tonight).

Anyway, Santa brought Viv a big ol' interlocking foam mat with letters, numbers and shapes for her to play on. Grandma and Nonna also got her a cute little baby corral that we set up on the mat. In order to accommodate all this stuff we had to rearrange our living room into a baby play land.

We're having x-mas #2 with Pod, Laura and Viv's uncles Zack, Adam, and Noah in a couple of days, and we'll have some more photos and probably some video from that.

Well, on to the video and and pictures.

Christmas Surprise

Howdy Everyone,

Alice and I would like to apologize (again) for the pitiful quantity of new posts. On the positive side, it's given me time to figure out how to insert video into the page. So Viv's Christmas present to everyone is a short video of her in her exersaucer, shot just this last week:

I'll be adding video posts on a fairly common basis now that I have .5 terabyte network attached storage drive to hold all the files (thanks Pod & Laura). If I'm really lucky I'll get some video of Viv and the wild goats of Arabi together. Also, I have a bit of bad news to report- if y'all remember me writing about 'one live chicken' a while back then you'll be sad to hear that he's now 'one flat chicken'. This particular chicken didn't manage to cross the road.

On to some pictures. Here's Viv in her saucer:

She loses her mind over Baby Einstein videos (which was what was in the background in the video above). It's a great way for me to entertain her in the morning after Al has left and I'm trying to get ready before Grandma Kathy gets here.

As a sidenote- if you haven't seen this show on PBS called the 'Boohbahs' you should really check it out. Though, if you're older than 3 you're gonna need a stiff drink at a minimum to cope with it- it makes the teletubbies seem normal. Children's shows seem to keep getting stranger and stranger- I was always freaked out by the little train on Mr. Rogers so I can't imagine what toddlers today must be thinking when they watch this stuff.

This next one doesn't have a story behind it, it's just a cute picture:

This was the eve of Christmas eve at our place- Al and I have finally become adult enough for people to come to us for the Holidays. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.

This last one is just a pic of something I put together for Viv with my free time this last week. Alice thinks it should be arranged big head, little head, big head, little head in a clockwise fashion. I prefer the counterclockwise rotation of head size from large in the upper right to small in the lower right. If you agree with Al, leave a comment and I might consider changing it.

New Activities

Viv has made a pretty fair amount of progress since she rapped at ya last. She's strong enough to sit up and hold her head up and look around, but she's still pretty small for most things that let her do this. In the high-chair and the exer-saucer she needs some pillows or receiving blankets to wedge her in place so she doesn't flop around. She also appears to be on the way to sprouting a couple of lower teeth and she's very unhappy about this development. Here's some pictures of her activities:

This was during the last Saints game:

Busy Busy

Viv has been quite busy since we last posted. She's been doing her homework with Nick and Laura as well as spending a lot of time consoling mom about being back at work.

She gets pretty tuckered out after all this business, but still makes sure her hat is set at a jaunty angle.

mmmmmmmmmm........

fingers........

whee!

On a more serious side, Alice and I got Viv's first X-mas tree today and Grandma and Nonna cam over and helped us decorate it. I think it turned out pretty well.

Her presents are getting bundled up below the tree as I write this and she seems pretty pleased with the shiny/glittery/lights aspect of the whole deal. I'm sure we'll have some more x-mas'y pics up over the next few weeks.

Pictures

Viv's First Bug

It all started last Thursday when Viv had her three month pediatrician appointment. She was in good spirits and weighed in at 11 lb 2 oz and 23 inches. She had two vaccination shots that she tolerated a bit better than the last few. However, by Saturday night Viv just wasn't herself. We went to our big date night to Babies r Us and Chevy's Fresh Mex for dinner, (sad, we know), and left Viv with grandma and nonna. When we got back they reported that Viv wasn't her chipper self. Then, on Sunday, she slept pretty much all day long and her awake times were fussy. On Monday, grandma again reported that Viv was fussy and lethargic. When I got home Monday afternoon I called Dr. Hales and they told me to give her baby Tylenol and call them back if she didn't start to feel better. So yesterday I (Alice) decided to stay home with her. Fortunately, though she still slept more than usual yesterday she had returned to her happy self when she was awake. We're not sure if it was a bug she picked up at the Doctor's office or a reaction to her vaccines, but we're glad she's over it.

There's some problems with loading pictures to the site this morning so we'll post some this afternoon, hopefully.

quick update

Viv had her most recent visit to the pediatrician last week and she looks to be doing great. Alice is going to write more details about this later.

On the downside, it appears that Viv may have caught her first case of the sniffles. She's been a bit cranky and lethargic the past couple of days but hopefully it will pass soon and she'll get back to her old self. I think she's just working too hard:
