Uneven pupils
Some of you may know that our pediatrician referred us to an eye doctor at Children's Hospital here because Gus has uneven pupils. It is barely noticeable, really. Anyway, at Gus's 5 month appointment Dr. Oates said that she suspected that it was nothing to worry about, but they routinely refer kids with this symptom. Well, after his appointment today it turns out that Gus's uneven pupils are only a symptom of asymmetry, or in fancy eye doctor speak, anisocoria. Nothing more. So, Yay!

ok, ok

It's Curt. Lately (more like the last 4 or 5 months) Alice has been doing pretty much all the posts to the blog. So, in order to avoid her grumbling I reckon I'll start posting some again.
Be warned though- there's likely to be an awful lot of gloating after next Tuesday. I'll try to keep it in check.
Boo at the Zoo
Friday we took the kids to Boo at the Zoo. We had a great time. Viv got some practice trick or treating so she'll be ready for Halloween. She got a nice haul of candy. I didn't get any pictures on the trick or treat walk because it was very dark, but there are a ton of pictures here from other parts of the Boo.
In the parking lot before we went in.

After hitting up the channel 26 news guys for candy.

In the space walk in the toddler area. Viv had never been in a space walk before, and she absolutely loved it.

Gus, happy and alert.

Viv in line in the toddler area.

Riding on the pony ride. This reminded me of the kind of ride you used to see in front of grocery stores when I was a kid. What ever happened to all those? Anyway, Viv totally loved this ride too, and the teenagers who were working the ride were great. After she got off the first time we had to turn right back around and get in line again, she loved it so much.

Playing with dyed pasta after making a necklace out of the same. She's got on her necklace in this picture.

And back on the pony ride.

Playing in the hay at the pumpkin patch.

Playing ring the tail of the cat.

And back in the space walk.

Back on the pony ride one last time.

Doe, a deer
Vivienne has an amazing amount of energy. Right now she's running around the Bumbo singing "ashes, ashes, we all fall down," her ABCs, and telling us that she's running around and that she likes to run around. Here's some videos I took last night.
Solar power
As with all new appointees to significant posts such as Family Pet, there is a period of at least six months where the new appointee can expect to have his mettle tested. While Abby unfortunately wasn't up to snuff, Solar is proving to be an exceptional pet, a domestic short haired elite, if you will. Viv pulls his hair, pulls his tail, attacks him, and does her best to make sure he never eats or drinks. Now Gus has gotten into the mettle-testing action. Solar does not complain. Rather, he seems hopeful that the kids will eventually do their part and maybe even change his litter box someday. But can he convince Curt to like him? Yes, he can! (God let this election be over soon.)
